Sophie+Howl*ehem*Twinkle doodles by vanipy05 Sophie+Howl*ehem*Twinkle doodles by vanipy05
I have this super strong love for the book of Howl's moving castle. I even like it better than the movie, although i'm not saying that the book is better, because both the movie and the book are wonderful in its own way. but i just like the book much more.

After rereading the book twice in two weeks, i decided to pick up on one of its sequels, House of many ways.
I loved the parts where the old characters show up, srsly. and Howl never fails to make me laugh. He turned himself into this little adorable boy with a lisp and named himself Twinkle (for some reason) because he wanted to help sophie and have his second childhood.

And sophie is just really annoyed at Howl the whole time :XD:

So anyways, this is how I imagine Twinkle to look like, according to the description. (and also influenced by the anime movie of the book *HMC*. I saw the movie first, so i can't imagine howl looking like anyone else but the anime one. it's fine though.)
And Sophie. Ive seen a lot of interpretations of how Sophie looks like. Most of them has Sophie with super duper long hair and awesome bangs. well, personally, I don't really think Sophie would look like that. She's the eldest of three and in the land they're in...i don't think so. or atleast I do. eh.

bottom line. I love these characters.

calcifer too.

oh yeah, to those who have read all three Howl books, should I read Castle in the air too? Is it worth buying? (I like reading books than in the internet) :|
is it too aladdin-y? or is that good? ugh.

comments are appreciated!

YES Castle in the air is worth buying! Especially if you like humor, and oriental fantasy, and moody genies. And even if you don't. Really.
I still have to read
House of Many Ways, though. I was afraid that there would be more childish themes than in the two others, I mean, less mature themes, less delving into things. (Arg. Well you know what I mean. Anyway--)
Do you know if there are any more sequels about dear Howl?

Well-done!  I'm about halfway through House of Many Ways right now.  I know it's been a while since you've posted this, so I don't know if you've read Castle in the Air yet, but if you want my thoughts on it: Like starlightfeather13 said, it's very Aladdin-y. It doesn't seem to have much/anything to do with the first HMC book, at first, so it's worth a re-read after.  It takes place two years before House of Many Ways, when Morgan is first born, and it explains how Sophie met the princess.  Worth a read. :)

oh yes, I've read castle in the air! I loved it! I personally think it's better than the last book.
the last book isn't as good as the first two, but it's still a fun read if you're wondering what the main characters have been up to lately :D
and don't worry, your english is okay!

OH MAN this is a reply two years after you made this - but if you HAVEN'T yet, then yes, PLEASE do read Castle in the Air. The Sophie and Howl moments in that one are sooooo nice ;u;

But yes oh gosh. I LOVE how much anger and bickering was between them in the house of many ways... :XD: Sophie is so fed up with you, Howl.

Castle is just as good, or perhaps even slightly better than Howl's. House is by far the weakest and rather disappointed me.

I agree. I completely do.

Howl and Sophie were the only ones who kept me reading honestly. Charmaine was perhaps a little annoying as a character. I think the reason for that probably is the large gap between castle. Dianna Wynne Jones probably lost the true feel of the book after not writing one after years.

OH MY GOD. THIS. This is super awesome and wonderful and all sorts of brilliant. The expressions are priceless and wonderful. It's so hard to find book-based Howl et. all fanart.... This totally made me laugh. :D

This is absolutely hilarious! Even though "House of Many Ways" seems to be my least-favourite in the series, Twinkle compensates for everything. :XD: Poor Howl, he just wants a shot at a second childhood and a pair of 'stwipey pants'. I love the way you've drawn his oh-so-innocent expression, and all the little surrounding sparkles. Sophie's angry face is hilarious as well.

i'd have to agree that house of many ways is also my least favorite howl book. Really, I think Howl was the only one that kept me reading :XD:

haha thank you very much!

AAAWH it is so him! ahahahahah

When I read the scene in the book when he goes to Sophie while she is explaining how she left Morgan with Howl and Calcifer I laughed XD

And your art! I envy you, you have a talent. The expressions are perfect, so them!

I have always thought that he called himself Twinkle after the song, you know "Twinkle, Twinkle, littler star" :D
He is such a prima donna xD

Haha thank you!

I always thought he named himself "Twinkle" because of his curse in the first book for catching a falling star :XD:

Loooooove <3 I rolled on the floor when I read that scene behind the couch for the first time... actually I roll on the floor every time I re-read it too. I much prefer the Howl's Moving Castle book to the movie as well. I wish they would make House of Many Ways into a movie. I don't miss Castle in the Air though, I didn't really enjoy that one until they get back to Ingary and Sophie shows up. Then it got funny.

Perfect, perfect Sophie. Especially the hair.
I LOVED this book so much. Howl as a child was just...so adorable and yet, you can imagine he'd get a kick out of winding Sophie up.

Castle in the Air, well. Yes, it is quite aladdin-y, but I still think it's worth reading. You have to...bear with it. I don't want to give too much away, but you'll get to the end and want to read it again because you...realise something you missed the first time.
Yeah, vague or what but it's a spoiler I really, really don't want to reveal. Just trust me. Read it to the end and you'll be thankful!

I've only read HMC and Castle In the Air... Hm... you might want to check it out of the library before you spend much on it. It's... different. Granted it's interesting, but it's not in ANY way what I expected. You should read it though, because what happens to the characters, Sophie specifically, is just TOO interesting to not know about! And I'll shut up now before I give it away. :D

Gah, I just wish Dianna Wynne Jones made a direct sequel to HMC. But I guess it is her writing style. :|

oh my gosh that reminds me. in one interview before she passed away she was thinking of making another sequel to the howl books. GAH.

She passed away??? I didn't know that! But I also didn't know there was more than two Howl books, so that shows you how updated I am.

I wonder what order they would go in... But I can't tell you what happens in Castle in the Air to know if it would come before or after House of Many Ways... Drat it! And I wanna know!!! But our library doesn't have House of Many Ways and I'll have to wait to buy it. *frustrated*

well, I can tell you that House of Many ways comes after Castle in the air. But despite the book being after, it didn't really spoil Castle in the air because yeah it's a whole new story. The slightest relation of it from CIA is some characters appearing. so yeah :D

Yes! :D the book has 2 sequels!
But might I warn you that in each sequel is kind of a different story which does not revolve around Sophie and Howl anymore. But they do appear and help out in the plot. Howl is still funny in each one :XD:

Thank you!
